Qatar Luxury Classic Cars Contest and Exhibition commences

Amidst the presence of a host of dignitaries and classic car enthusiasts, the 2022 edition of the Qatar Classic Cars Contest and Exhibition, organized by the Gulf Qatar Classic Car Association, and under the patronage of H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums’ Board of Trustees, and in partnership with United Development Company (UDC), the developer of The pearl and Jeiwan, launched at Medina Centrale, ​​The Pearl.

Qatar Tourism, Qatar Airways, Alfardan Automobiles, and the Social and the Sports and Social Activities Support Fund “Daam” joined forces to sponsor the most important classic car focused event in the region.

Organizing and hosting the Qatar Luxury Classic Cars Contest and Exhibition 2022 comes in anticipation of the commencement of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. It is notable to say that the exhibition is regarded as one of the most prominent tourism events in the country, and that it has proven impactful in revitalizing domestic and foreign tourism.

A new phase

On this occasion, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani stated, “The Qatar Classic Cars Contest and Exhibition 2022 commences today, with the support of the International Classic Car Federation, of which the Gulf Qatar Classic Car Association is an active member, marking the beginning of a new phase in which professional standards for evaluating classic cars are applied.”

He added, “The Gulf Qatar Classic Car Association seeks to provide a distinct and attractive environment to preserve classic cars as a legacy passed on by generations, and a societal heritage owned by a conscious generation that has all the necessary skills needed to preserve and protect this heritage, by providing the giving the car collectors all the necessary educational, artistic and cultural experiences, thus contributing to the creation of an educated generation that has the skills to deal with this category of cars in order to preserve it within Qatar’s heritage, legacy and history.”

 “Organizing and hosting this exhibition represents a highly valuable opportunity and platform for classic cars collectors and enthusiasts, which allows them to proudly display their cars to thousands of classic car lovers, and to provide them the invaluable opportunity to learn more and in depth about this category of cars.” He added.

Sheikh Faisal also stressed the importance of this year’s edition, stating: “The year’s edition takes place in anticipation of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which will draw the world’s attention towards Qatar, which has become a destination for the most important events in the world, and being granted this wonderful opportunity, we aspire to introduce the Qatari and international community to the Gulf Qatar Automobile Association, as a sponsor and supporter of collectors of this category of cars, and to highlight the association’s efforts in contributing to the advancement of the Qatari society, as well as to encourage investment in classic cars, and shed a light on this very rich tradition and its long0standing history in the country.  In addition, we aim to also highlight the various developmental stages that the classic car industry has gone through.”

Exceptional edition

Omar bin Hussein Al-Fardan, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Gulf Classic Car Association stated: “Today we witness the launch of an exceptional edition of the Qatar Classic Cars Contest and Exhibition, which coincides with the launch of the FIFA World Cup 2022, which will be held in Qatar and for the first time in the Middle East soon. This achievement would not have been possible without God’s grace and the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar. The Qatar Luxury Classic Cars Contest and Exhibition presents collectors of this category of cars, with a great opportunity to showcase their cars to the public, and provides the public with the chance to come marvel at their favorite classic cars.”

Al-Fardan stressed the importance of allowing all relevant authorities and corporations to sponsor the event, and said: “We extend our deepest gratitude to all those who supported and sponsored the Qatar Classic Luxury Cars Contest and Exhibition 2022.  Their generous efforts were without a doubt a huge factor in facilitating the organization of this particular edition, as well as all other events supervised by the association. This support undoubtedly affirms the effective partnership between private sector institutions and the community, which continues to elevate the tourism sector in Qatar.”

Al-Fardan also discussed the further development of the Qatar Classic Cars Competition and Exhibition 2022, and stated: “The previous editions have achieved inspiring success that allowed us to develop further, and without that success, we wouldn’t have been able to successfuly the International Classic Cars Federation (FIVA), which this year supervises the criteria for selecting the cars participating in the competition, in addition to the winning cars of all categories in the competition.”

Al Fardan highlighted the great demand from classic car owners and collectors to participate this year’s edition of the exhibition: “There are a number of people in Qatar who have a habit of collecting extremely rare cars. These vehicles are considered masterpieces of art and engineering, and are manufactured by the oldest and most prestigious car manufacturers from around the world.  For many in Qatar, Collecting these types of cars, is a representation of their culture and heritage, which must be preserved and protected.”

“Since the establishment of the Gulf Qatar Classic Car Association, we have always sought to provide a distinct and attractive opportunity for those who aim to preserve the collection of classic cars as a legacy passed on by generations, and as part of our heritage that we can then pass on to a new generation of and conscious collectors that have all the skills necessary to preserve and protect it. We have been successful in doing so, by bestowing our vast and providing them with educational and technical expertise upon them.” He added

Al Fardan also highlighted the accompanying content, which is supervised by FIVA and stated: “In order to elevate the spirit of participating in the exhibition, we launched an accompanying contest, under the supervision of FIVA. Under the competition, a host of exceptional cars in several categories will be selected and rewarded. The completion was meticulously developed in adherence to international standards, and through a specialized jury committee, and the winners will be announced during the concluding day of the exhibition.”

A new era

Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser bin Khalid Al Thani praised the great turnout at the exhibition from the first day it launched and said, “Today we are witnessing the birth of a new era in the history of the Qatar Classic Cars Contest and Exhibition, which is evident by the great turnout it has witnessed thus far, and this is conclusive evidence that the classic car sector in Qatar is booming and growing rapidly, and establishing itself as a heritage and cultural sector that must be preserved and supported in order to for it to continue to prosper ,both on a local andglobal level.”

On the sidelines of the launch ceremony, H.E. Mr. Turki bin Mohammed Al-Khater, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Development Company (UDC), praised the great turnout witnessed during the launch of the exhibition, which he stated reflects the interest of both the public and dignitaries in the classic car sector. He stated: “We are pleased today to host this grand exhibition at the Pearl for the third year in a row, and we are keen on supporting the exhibition and contributing to its success. Hosting this important event at the pearl cements it as the ultimate destination for the region’s most prominent events.”

Mr. Ibrahim Jassim Al-Othman, CEO and Board Member of United Development Company, stressed the company’s keenness to provide an ideal recreational atmosphere for visitors of the Pearl, by organizing various entertaining events and activities throughout the year. He added: “We are pleased to grow our partnership with the Qatar Gulf Classic Car Association, and to contribute to the exhibition’s success. We have exerted tremendous efforts in order to attract visitors from inside and outside the country , so that they can descend upon it, and to revel in its stunning masterpieces.”

Qatar Gulf Classic Car Association

The Gulf Qatar Classic Car Association aspires to introduce the Qatari community primarily to its activities as a sponsor and supporter for collectors of this category of cars, and to highlight the association’s activity in the Qatari community, as well as to encourage investment in classic cars, and highlight this tradition and its long-standing history in Qatar, in addition to highlighting the various developmental stages that the classic car industry has gone through.

The association also seeks to provide a distinct and attractive environment to preserve classic cars as a legacy passed on by generations, and a community heritage owned by a professional and conscious generation that has all the necessary skills to uphold this tradition, by providing the collectors of these cars with the necessary educational, artistic and cultural experiences, which contributes to creating an educated generation that has the skills to preserve its heritage, legacy and history.

For many in Qatar, the acquisition of classic cars represents a culture and heritage that must be preserved, and that has become embedded in Qatari culture. The association seeks to promote and support classic car enthusiasts and collectors, and to highlight their rare collections that are considered masterpieces of art and engineering, manufactured by the oldest and most-renowned car manufacturers in the world. These cars are invaluable to their owners and enthusiasts alike. .”

International Federation of Classic Cars (FIVA)

The General Committee of the International Federation of Classic Cars “FIVA” had unanimously approved at the end of last year the membership of the Gulf Qatar Classic Car Association. That decision signaled its commitment to supporting this classic car sector and providing it with various fresh ideas to support its events and to contribute to its success. FIVA will be sponsoring this year’s edition of the Qatar Classic Luxury Cars Competition and Exhibition, and will be setting the criteria for the participating cars and help select the winning cars during the completion.
